Bhutan defeats Sri Lanka, advance to semi finals

 Bhutan secured their place in the semi-finals of the SAFF Under-20 Championship with a 1-0 win over Sri Lanka in their final Group A match in Male'.

Sri Lanka needed only a draw to progress but were denied by a late goal scored by Bhutan.

The decisive moment came in the second minute of stoppage time at the Maldives National Football Stadium, when Thandin Sevan’s cross was headed in by Dendup Gilshan.

The goal ended Sri Lanka’s hopes of advancing.

Nepal topped Group A following their earlier draw with Sri Lanka, confirming the group’s final standings.

In Group B, India and Bangladesh have both secured semi-final spots. The group winner will be decided in their final match to take place this evening, with the winner set to face Group A runners-up Bhutan. The losing side will take on Group A winners Nepal in the semi-finals.
