Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has announced that seven parking buildings are to be developed in the Male' area.
The minister shared designs on X and said that the development of the parking buildings will commence soon. He said that the buildings will have the capacity for parking 2,600 four-wheeled vehicles and 1,000 motorcycles.
Ameen said that the project is being carried out under the direction of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in the aim of finding a permanent solution to the parking issues faced by the residents of the capital.
Development of parking buildings to alleviate congestion due to vehicles parked on Male' streets is a presidential pledge of President Muizzu.
The development of parking buildings in Male' and Hulhumale' under the 'Male' Fahi' initiative was first announced by the Transport Ministry in July, 2024.
Parking structures located around Male' previously remained unused and fell into disrepair, and has since been dismantled.
