Ahmed Shakir Mohamed was elected as the President of the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy today.
Following the resignation of the institution's former leader, Dr. Ashraf Abdul Raheem, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu nominated Shakir to the board.
Subsequently, the five-member academy held a vote and decided to appoint Shakir as its president.
In recognition of his ongoing services to the Dhivehi language, the government awarded him the National Award of Honour in 2022.
Shakir, who has also served as a member of the Maldives Media Council, is particularly distinguished in literature for his poetry. Among his works, he has most prolifically composed national poems and madhaha.
He has also authored various books in the Dhivehi language.
