White Alert issued for most part of Maldives, strong winds and rough seas expected

Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a White Alert from Haa Alifu atoll in the northernmost Maldives to Thaa atoll in central Maldives.

MET forecasted rain and thunderstorms, with strong winds of 19 to 24 miles per hour, gusts up to 50 miles per hour, and rough seas for these regions.

According to the most recent data from the weather agency, Kaafu atoll Gaafaru observed the heaviest rainfall in the past 24 hours with 67.7 millimeters. Baa Atoll Goidhoo recorded 61.2 millimeters, and Dharavandhoo in Baa atoll saw 20.5 millimeters of rainfall in the past 24 hours.

While the MET has predicted bad weather for most parts of the Maldives, many people are traveling to different islands following the end of the Eid holidays.
