Temperatures continue to soar: 48 degrees Celsius today

Feels like temperature has reached a new high in Male' area today, reaching 48 degrees Celsius.

MET Office reports that this is the hottest day so far in the Male' area, but temperatures have been hitting new highs, gradually rising with every recent week.

MET office stated that the actual temperature in Hulhumale' is 33.6 degrees Celsius, with apparent temperature as high as 48.4 degrees Celsius.

"The day's heat usually peaks between 11:00 hrs before noon and 15:00 hrs in the afternoon," the office said.

MET Office further said that they predicted the temperatures would rise and stay beyond 45 degrees Celsius even in the coming days, and cautioned the public to take precautionary measures.

MET Office statistics show the highest temperature recorded in Maldives last year was in Haa Dhaalu atoll Hanimaadhoo on May 6, with the temperature reaching 34.6 degree Celsius.
