President Dr Muizzu pointed out today that the government needs to have a sustainable and fair development framework.

He said that the government's development programmes will be conducted under this vision, aided by seeking advice from scholars and conducting other academic researches in the related fields.

In his inaugural address, the President stressed that, through medium and long term plans, he would bring about development to different regions of the country through an innovative model which would ensure growth and urbanization advantages to residents in diverse areas of the nation.

"It is my sincere request that scholars of different fields in the Maldives offer their expertise and academic research to us in our efforts to achieve these goals," the President appealed to the public.

Announcing that opportunities for this would be introduced soon, he stated that the reason for doing this is to integrate public opinion and aspirations into the development work that will shape the country's future.

"Based on these proposals, we will draft a 20 year masterplan, for which we will try to establish legal standing," the President explained.

Speaking about current plans, the President said that Integrated Development Zones will be established in two zones of the country, in the northern and southernmost ends of Maldives. He further said that seven urban centres will be set up in seven different regions of the Maldives.

He went on to point out the importance of workers in nation building, adding that his administration will pay special attention to the fields of fisheries, farming, construction, carpentry and other such skills.

The President urged scholars from different fields to increase their studies and researches, and to publish their findings so that all can have access.

"What I would prefer is for national development policies to be built on a foundation of academic studies from scholars," the President stated.
