The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a demand for all political staff in Maldivian embassies located in foreign countries to return before November 18.

The ministry issued the directive in response to a request from President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Additionally, the ministry stated that all 61 political employees stationed in various Maldivian embassies and consular missions in foreign countries have been instructed to return before November 18.

While the government has called for the return of all political employees to Maldives, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) coalition previously voiced concerns about the current government's decision to expand the number of political employees in foreign embassies, incurring significant expenditures from the state.

Dr. Muizzu, who will take oath of office on November 17, next Friday, pledged not to increase political positions beyond 700.
