New bus stop added to Hiya Flats area

A new bus stop has been introduced in the Hulhumalé Hiya flat area to expand the range of public transportation services offered by MTCC (Maldives Transport and Contracting Company).

MTCC has announced that buses R6, R7, R8, and R9 will include a stop near the H16 Hiya flat area, staring today.

Previously, RTL buses would make stops at five locations in Hulhumalé 2, while buses travelling to Velana International Airport would have seven stops. With the introduction of the new bus stop, buses en-route to Malé will now make six stops within Hulhumalé, enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of the public transportation network.

For people traveling from the Hiya flat area to Hulhumalé 1 or Malé will have MTCC buses available every 15 minutes. During periods of increased demand, additional buses will also be deployed to these stops. Currently, additional buses are already allocated during peak hours, particularly to accommodate student's transportation requirements.

The bus network in the Malé area include a total of 12 routes.

The introduction of double-decker buses to travel across the Sinamalé Bridge marked a significant development in the transportation system. Initially, 22 double-decker buses were introduced, and subsequently, an additional 15 buses of the same type have been acquired and are currently in operation.
