White alert has been issued from Haa Alif atoll to Thaa atoll due to expected heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Despite the severe weather conditions in many parts of the country, people are traveling to other islands as school holidays and Eid holidays have commenced.

The National Meteorological Department (MET) has extended the white alert issued this morning for the area due to the extremely bad weather experienced last night.

The MET office forecasts wind speeds of 19-24 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and rough seas in the affected areas.

According to data released by MET office, In the last 24 hours, Alif Alif atoll Thoddoo experienced the highest rainfall with 46 mm recorded. Faafu atoll Biledhoo and Meemu atoll Muli experieced 33-34 mm of rainfall each.

The Meteorological Department stated that the southernmost parts of the country can expect below-average rainfall in June, while other areas are likely to experience more rainfall. Additionally, temperatures across the country are expected to be higher than normal.
