The new building of Arabyyia School will open during the new academic year next year if the work proceeds according to schedule, Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali has said.

In response to a question raised by Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Thoriq during Monday's parliament session, the Minister said the concept drawing of the new building has been finalized and the detailed drawing is currently in progress.

The detailed drawing will be completed by the end of this month, and the practical work on the old Jamaluddin School is scheduled to begin on Sunday, she said.

The Minister said that if everything goes according to plan, the school is expected to open for the 2024 academic year.

The Ministry of Education had previously said that work on the Arabyyia School would be completed this year.

The Arabyyia building, which was opened eight years ago, has fallen into disrepair, and the students have been temporarily studying in the former Foreign Ministry building near the Hulhumalé ferry terminal in Malé since 2022.

However, parents have been expressing concerns about the poor condition of the building.
