India's GMR, which was contracted with managing Velana International Airport (VIA) during former president Mohamed Nasheed's presidency, is among the list of Maldives Inland Revenue Authority's (MIRA) tax defaulters.

The authority, confirms the Indian company's name among 136 others on their "Name and Shame" list.

MIRA's "Name and Shame" list is part of the authority's tax enforcement policy. Earlier, the authority publicized names of several tourist properties that defaulted on their tax returns.

This time around, the authority has publicized the names of all corporate entities defaulting on GST and Green Tax.

In addition to the defaulters, the authority also publicized a list of 256 entities failing to file proper tax reports.

The recent lists include tax defaulters who had not settled their overdue taxes with MIRA, and the entities or individuals who have not filed the proper tax reports since December 2021.

At the time MIRA has only publicized the names on their website. However, following a 15 day period, the names will be published on the state gazette, which will be avoided if the defaulters settle their outstanding within the period.
